My little fellow is about a week into being three years old. He celebrated his third birthday with 3 semi-official cake & candle blowing sessions and a whole bunch of informal candle-blowing. And today, he asked me whether his birthday was over. Next question was, "who ate it?" So it seems birthdays are synonomous with eating cake and blowing out candles. He's quite the talker, when he's in the mood. If not, he usually roars like a lion or hides. It's interesting to see him process information. It's also somewhat frightening that he processes so much - definitely makes me think twice about what's being said and done. He's also very much into music these days. He's taken to shouting from the backseat, "can you put my favorite song." If we feign ignorance, he says, "press disc two." And on disc 2, you wil hear some little tykes singing "I will sing of the mercies of the Lord." He's been learning his memory verses, but boy is it difficult to get him to sit still through the process. But, "Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee" .. and no time like the present. Since we visit the MD fellowship often, he gets excited about going to the front with the other kids to say his verses. The last big accomplishment was Ps. 23. Other funny things he says in the course of conversation... "I'm not a lion. I don't have stripes. I have a shirt. That's why." "I'm so tired. I need to rest" "That dog is too loud. He sturbing a lot of peoples." "Do you need help? I can help you." Usually in regards to folding clothes, washing/playing with the dishes and water, making chappatis, & pressing the buttons on the food processor and the microwave After I returned from the grocery store with some milk, he comes running up to me and says "Thank you mommy. Thank you for buying me milk." And he's serious with the cutest smile on his face. So ridiculously sweet. I love it when he says thank you spontaneously. Although, upon consideration, it seems most of these moments have something to do with food. hmm.. With all the wedding talk, he's repeatedly asked me "who am i going to get married from." He usually resolves his dilemma by saying he's going to get married "from ammachi." She's going to wear a "lail" and he's going to wear a suit. He was particularly worried about his future during Sophy's wedding. And I mean during the wedding sermon he comes up to me (in the front row) and asks about his future bride. After several failed attempts to quiet him, I, having no better solution, said you can go marry ammachi. Funny kid. He loves to read. If he finds a captive reader (like Liju's dad), he'll usually lug over at least four books followed by another set. I've recently caught him on the stairs reading to himself. He just makes up whatever story - although it usually turns out to be something related to Moses. Overall, he's a good big brother. He likes to make the little ones laugh by making funny sounds or playing peek-a-boo, or tickling them. He insists on taking a bath with his brothers. He also doesn't like when they get into his toys. The other day I caught him trying to reprimand Ethan. Sounded awfully familiar to his mom. He even had a vadi in his hand! Sheesh. He likes being with his "friends" of whom it seems he has many - real and imaginary. The real ones are at Sunday School and MOPS. The imaginary ones pop up every once in a while. And they have funny names like Jeffy, Raisin, and Baisin. So, I'm curious what the next year will hold. Reading, pre-school maybe. Most of all, I just pray he grows in the love and fear of the Lord.
